Just as I promised

Here it is, just like I said I would post. This is my basic outfit. The candy store and ESPN have different outfits, but this is the normal costume for the Boardwalk merchandise team. The picture at the top is Everest, I rode it 3 times yesterday before work. Its a great ride, you go forward and backward, and see a Yeti. Don't forget to vote on the movie, just a few days left! To Clarify a bit.....

I sell merchandise at Disney's Boardwalk Resort. The resort is considered on of the Epcot Resorts, meaning it is relatively close to Epcot, along with Disney's Yacht and the Beach Club Resorts as well as the Swan and Dolphin hotels which are not Disney's. The 5 resorts all back up to the lake you see in many of the pictures and from that lake you can take a 3 minute boat ride into the back of Epcot. You can also take a 8ish minute boat ride to Disney's Hollywood Studios from the resorts. The Boardwalk resort is one of the Disney Vacation Club resorts; the Vacation Club is like a time share, but better. You can use your points you collect at any of the vacation clubs on property as well as one on the beach that Disney owns, and numerous hotels around the world. Disney's Boardwalk opened July 1, 1996 and has 378 regular rooms and 532 vacation club villas. The whole resort is themed late 19th and early 20th century Atlantic City. 

I work in 3 different stores on the Boardwalk; On The Boardwalk, Sea Shore Sweets, and ESPN Club. The On The Boardwalk store carries drinks, snacks, frozen pizzas, kitchen supplies, toys, clothes, jewelry, snow-globes, mugs, tea and coffee just to name a few. It's like part souvenir shop half supply store for Vacation Club users that have full kitchen in their rooms. The Sea Shore Sweets is a candy store, we have soft serve ice cream, jelly beans in every color known to man, and pretty much everything you could imagine covered in chocolate. The ESPN Club is connected to a ESPN restaurant; we sell sport hats and shirts with teams names and/or ESPN logo on it. We also operate a small arcade in the store. All in all it's pretty much the same job and duties in all the stores, the merchandise just changes. I stock the shelves, ring up guests, help them find stuff, scoop ice cream and most of all, make sure the guest are happy. Disney is in the entertainment business, obviously, so I'm not someone that sells merchandise, rather I perform Merchantainment.

It's been a little while since my last post, hope you didn't miss me too much. I've been staying busy with work. This past week I finished my training and now have fully earned my ears, haha. That's their term, but anyway, i now work without someone watching me which is nice cuz I'm not as worried about making mistakes. The guests have been great and friendly and everyone i work with are great and helpful. Sunday there was a little girl who had a birthday in the store. Being the most magical place on Earth, Goofy called and sang happy birthday to her, then she received a pin with Tinker Bell on it. When she got it the cast member told her that it was just for her from Tinker Bell. She had the biggest smile and the parents were about to cry they were so happy.

Today i went to Epcot after work and got my hair cut at the cast services building. Really neat going backstage at a new place i haven't been before. After the hair cut i rode a few rides and shopped. For dinner i got one of my favorite meals at Disney World, Fish and Chips at the England pavilion in Epcot. While i was in the back side of the park with all the country pavilions i went to France to watch the movie they have there (my moms favorite) and then journeyed over to China because it was the Chinese New Year today. Then I ended off the night with watching the Epcot fireworks Reflections of Earth again. Pictures of the show are below

I hope to go with my real camera soon and get better quality photos. Also I hope by my next post to post me in my costume, I've had some requests/ reassurance that I'm alive. Room Pics, and a little more

I got some more pics to put up. I spent my day off yesterday an Disney's Hollywood Studios, it was really crowded because it was a holiday, but i did most of what i wanted to do. My favorite show/ fireworks is at Hollywood Studios, its called Fantasmic, it's indescribable, so i'll have to get a video or better yet, come visit and i'll take you. 

 Thanks to everyone that writes, calls, texts, and posts telling how much you you miss me. I miss you all too. Hope all is well with everyone. 

I worked a little more today, got more training in, and actually did some transactions. I'm getting use to the rules, and ways to do things in the store, so I'm feeling good and comfortable working there. The cold found me,.... again, it was 54 degree with a low of 30, and won't warm back up till this weekend, if I'm lucky. I've bought more jackets and blankets than i know what to do with, but i wasn't expecting cold. 

Birthday!

Today is my first day off. I'm getting some nice rest in and taking care of some paper work, and other things that i don't get done while I'm working/in the parks. I plan on going to a park tomorrow, my other day off. While I've been here checking out the Magic Kingdom, I've seen a lot of neat new stuff. There is one show based of Monsters Inc. and it is set up like a comedy club. The monsters are on a screen and somehow they interact with the audience. They ask questions, take names and hold conversations with people in the crowd, it's crazy amazing! Yesterday i celebrated my birthday by sitting in training classes. Nothing like covering proper lifting exercises on your special day. It was nice, when i got back from lunch there was a button with my name and birthday balloons at my chair. I was done with the work training a little after noon and i then went to the Magic Kingdom to spend the rest of the evening. I walked around, shopped, rode rides, stopped to watch the firework show over the castle, then, because the park didn't close till 11, I got a few more rides in and stopped by a few more places to shop. I do more training/work this week, so by the weekend i should be doing normal work.

So far I've met some great people, the roommates are fun guys, they are up late, but nice. We all get a long, and there are a few other people from around our building that are over here most of the time. It's really neat, i have a room mate that is from Puerto Rico, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and one of the guys we hang with is from Boston and has a really deep accent; another one of my room mates plays the drums and likes the same type of music i like. I work with someone from Vietnam, and Florida, so I'm getting a pretty good variety of people from all over. Its warming up, so its getting better down here.

Working,...kinda

So while I'm here, I guess I have to work. It kinda stinks, I thought i was being paid to go to the parks, haha. No it's really not too bad. I had training today, it was really informative, and really long. I got my costume (uniform) and got a locker, met some other college students working in the area and met some managers. I'm working at the Boardwalk selling merchandise at several stores, depending on my schedule. The 3 possible stores that i could be at are: Boardwalk on the Boardwalk, Seashore Sweets, and the ESPN zone. People are friendly, and the crowds are really light, and i'm in Disney World, so i'm still enjoying it. The only down fall is that the past few days have been cold! Everyone that lives here thinks its freezing over, but knowing how cold Colorado and Oklahoma get, this is warm. 

Today after my day of training I went home and changed and then went to Epcot. I walked right on to 3 rides with no lines. They are still as great as i remember. After the rides i watched the fireworks, which are also great. The best part was other peoples reaction to how good the fireworks are. I've got 5 more days of training then i'll be a big boy, haha. I get 2 days off a week, and they are most of the time together, so that will be nice. I hope to get pictures of the apartment and work up soon. Miss everyone, wish you were here.

I Made It!

Well, I made it to Disney! The weather is great and the job is about to start. I got moved into my room today and all is looking good. I hope to have pictures of the place up soon. I live on the other side of the highway from Disney World, I can get to the parks in 5 to 10 min. with traffic. Also, there is a Red Lobster, Black Angus, B-Dubs, Olive Garden, Wendy's, Chick-Fil-A, and 2 or 3 outlet malls within spitting distance from my apartment; oh and don't forget the numerous shops and resturants in Downtown Disney. With the shorts and t-shirt weather and the countless places to eat and shop, you won't hear me complain anytime soon,...until my money runs out. haha. Don't worry, i'm sure i'll start to hate it here when I have to work.
